The official publication date for REX AND THE CITY is April 4th, 2006! Random House expects to do well, given the number of Bark magazine subscribers who already love the column. They also expect REX to do well because of the phenomenal success of MARLEY AND ME.  As we all know, dog people never tire of poignant, funny, and well-written books about dogs! And Rex was a much worse dog than Marley ever was! So we are thrilled to launch this book.

We’re gearing up for all kind of book signings and author appearances throughout the spring and summer. Because REX AND THE CITY is about the triumphant rehabilitation of an abused shelter dog, Lee wants to make sure all of her events and appearances include the appearance of one or two adoptable shelter dogs (or as many as the venues will allow).  She also plans to donate ten percent of her paperback sales to the Mayor’s Alliance for New York City’s Animals, a consortium of public and private NYC animal rescue groups and shelters that have banded together to help make NYC a no-kill city by 2009 (www.animalalliancenyc.org). Most of the proceeds will go toward a new program that pairs underprivileged teenagers with abused shelter dogs, to teach the teens about responsibility and compassion, and teaches the dogs how to trust again. So come to these events, and come help support abandoned, neglected and abused dogs, and come meet Lee’s remarkable dog.
